6 Disadvantages Of E-Schoolbags In The Classroom

Posted: Jan. 04th, 2016

The previous article described the advantages of using the E-Schoolbags in the classrooms. With time and the technological development, such changes are inevitable. However, every coin has two sides. Along with the pros, there are also the cons of using tablets in schools. Here are the major ones.

There are also disadvantages of using E-Schoolbags in the classroom
1. Potential Distraction For Students
Tablets have a lot of features along with the internet connection. They can aid in learning in numerous ways but they can also prove to be a distraction. Along with the educational resources, the students also have access to the games, social media, movies, and websites. Therefore, they can end up wasting their time on unnecessary things instead of focusing on their education.

2. Health Issues
With the increased use of the tablets and computers, the health problems associated with them are also increasing. Students are facing eyesight issues, blurred vision and headaches due to the continuous and prolonged use of such devices. Not only this, they prefer to play video games in their free time instead of outdoor games. This lack of physical activities leads to further health issues like obesity and muscular weakness.

3. Battery And Other Operational Problems
Like any other electronic device, the tablets have a limited battery life. If a student's tablet is not fully charged to last the full day at school, he/she can not continue with the classes. Apart from this, the electronic devices can also hang up, face software crashes, loose the data and other issues that can render them useless for a while. Such problems hinder the learning process.

4. Extra Effort For Preparing The Lectures
E-Schoolbags make the learning more interactive and interesting, but they also demand more time and effort for preparing the lessons. The teacher may spend hours to find the relevant videos, images, and presentations to include in the lecture. Also, if the teacher is not familiar with the technology, he will have to spend extra time to learn how to use it first.

5. Economic Pressure
In order to facilitate the use of E-Schoolbags, there are other requirements that need to be fulfilled first, like providing stable internet connection, eBooks, and other educational resources. Also, the teachers need to be trained to use the technology. On the other hand, the students also need internet connections and tablets at their homes. All this puts an economic pressure not only on the schools but also on the parents of the students.

6. Lack Of Discipline Among Students
With the information readily available, students may not want to learn what is being taught in the classroom. Instead of doing their homework they can simply look for the answers on the internet. Apart from this, the tablets don't require only typing, so the students may not prefer to write and develop their handwriting.

The cons described above can be avoided if the schools and teachers focus on the limited use of such technologies. If the students get dependent on them for everything, it would defeat the purpose of education. Therefore, the E-Schoolbags should be used only to the extent where they overcome the limitations of the traditional education system.
