About the Ming Tak High School of CUHK
The new campus of Ming Tak High School of The Chinese University of Hong Kong was completed and put into use in February 2025. Located in the heart of Futian District, Shenzhen city, the campus was constructed with high standards, covering an area of 27,000 square meters and boasting a floor space of 72,000 square meters. Designed to accommodate 600 students per grade, the school serves 1,800 students.
Challenge
The school is equipped with first-class educational facilities to advance smart education further and support the holistic growth of students. As a showcase of the school’s digital transformation, its library was looking for a modern and user-friendly service mode to match the innovative nature of the library.
Solution
The school library reached out to INTECH to develop an RFID solution. INTECH focuses on custom RFID and AI solutions for libraries, offering a wide array of library hardware products and innovative library management systems. The school library has introduced a series of RFID-based equipment, including search machine, self-service kiosk, and safety gates. By building a comprehensive intelligent service matrix, these innovations provide students and faculty with a high-quality self-check experience while injecting technological vitality into the school.
Preinstalled with the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) software, the search station is a touch-screen-based computer kiosk to access the library’s OPAC, where students or faculty can search the catalog, view item details, see if an item is available, and see the specific shelf where the item is located. The library OPAC kiosk speeds up the process of searching and finding library items, and reduces the need for staff assistance.
After picking up the library materials, students can go to the self-check kiosk for checkout by themselves. It will be done in just a few simple steps within seconds. The self-checkout station also gives students and faculty the flexibility of conveniently returning and renewing the items independently. It empowers the school library to streamline its circulation process and improves overall user experience.
The RFID gates are placed at the exit to scan items when they pass through. If an item with an activated tag is detected, the gate will trigger an alarm to alert staff, it will be authorized to take away from the library until the staff make sure it has been checked out. The INTECH security gate is a high-performance anti-theft device specifically designed for smart libraries. It facilitates better material tracking and contributes to a safer environment by reducing theft or accidental removal of library collections.
Ming Tak High School’s smart library stands as a testament to how technology can revolutionize learning environments, making knowledge more accessible and secure for all. In the future, INTECH will continue to develop cutting-edge library products and technology to serve more libraries.
